Why Eligibility Planning Matter
Understanding your eligibility window is the foundation of strategic NDA preparation. Without clarity on your attempts and timeline, even the most dedicated aspirants can lose valuable opportunities.
Most successful candidates begin preparation 12–18 months before their first serious attempt.
What NDA Target Helps You Achieve
Same Age Criteria
Female candidates must meet the same age requirement:
16.5 to 19.5 years on exam date..
Same Attempt Logic
No attempt limit for female candidates either. Age window determines total possible attempts.
All Services Open
Female candidates can opt for Army, Navy, and Air Force wings through NDA.
Same Selection Process
Written exam, SSB interview, and medical standards apply uniformly.
Special Scenarios Clarified
Class 12 Appearing Students
You can apply while appearing for 12th board exams. However, you must pass 12th with required subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) before academy joining. If you fail 12th but are still within age limit, you can reappear for NDA after clearing boards.
Drop Year Candidates
Taking a drop year is common for NDA preparation. As long as you’re within the age window (16.5–19.5), you can attempt NDA regardless of when you passed 12th. Many successful candidates take 1–2 drop years for focused preparation.
Repeating Aspirants
If you’ve attempted NDA before and failed at any stage (written, SSB, or medical), you can reappear as long as age criteria is met. Previous attempts don’t negatively impact your application. Each attempt is evaluated independently.
Medical Disqualification Impact
Medical examination happens after SSB interview. If declared medically unfit, you can reappear for NDA written exam (if within age). However, the same medical condition may persist. Some conditions can be corrected; consult the official medical standards document.
